چکیده

A macroscopic symmetry group describing the superconducting state of an orthorhombically twinned crystal of YBCO is introduced. This macroscopic symmetry group is different for different symmetries of twin boundaries. Josephson tunneling experiments performed on twinned crystals of YBCO determine this macroscopic symmetry group and hence determine the twin boundary symmetry (but do not experimentally determine whether the microscopic order parameter is primarily dor s-wave). A consequence of the odd-symmetry twin boundaries in YBCO is the stability of 12Φ0 vortices at the intersection of a twin boundary and certain grain boundaries. Effective symmetry and physical properties of twinned perovskite ferroelectric single crystals

The effective symmetry and material properties of twinned ferroelectric crystals with perovskite structure were analyzed. The twins or twinbands studied here were formed during ferroelectric phase transitions, which resulted in one of the following symmetry changes: m3m → 3m, m3m → 4mm, and m3m → mm2. It was found that the volume ratios of the two domains in a twin structure were not always equ...

The time reversal invariant fractional Josephson effect

One of the most basic consequences of topological superconductivity is the fractional Josephson effect, which arises due to the coherent tunneling of single electrons between two superconductors, leading to an ac Josephson effect with half the usual Josephson frequency. In this paper we will review the theoretical and experimental foundations of topological superconductivity and the fractional ...

Quantum terahertz electrodynamics and macroscopic quantum tunneling in layered superconductors.

We derive a quantum field theory of Josephson plasma waves (JPWs) in layered superconductors, which describes two types of interacting JPW bosonic quanta (one heavy and one lighter). We propose a mechanism of enhancement of macroscopic quantum tunneling (MQT) in stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions. Because of the long-range interaction between junctions in layered superconductors, the calcu...

Observation of the second harmonic in superconducting current-phase relation of Nb/Au/(001)YBa2Cu3Ox hetero- junctions

– The superconducting current-phase relation (CPR) of Nb/Au/(001)YBa2Cu3Ox heterojunctions prepared on epitaxial c-axis oriented YBa2Cu3Ox thin films has been measured in a single-junction interferometer. For the first time, the second harmonic of the CPR of such junctions has been observed. The appearance of the second harmonic and the relative sign of the first and second harmonics of the CPR...

Macroscopic Quantum Tunneling and Resonant Activation of Current Biased Intrinsic Josephson Junctions in Bi-2212

The utilization of a high-Tc superconductor for implementing a superconducting qubit is to be expected. Recent researches on the quantum property of Josephson junctions in high-Tc superconductors indicate that the low energy quasiparticle excitation is weak enough to observe the macroscopic quantum tunneling. Therefore, a detailed study on the quantum property of high-Tc Josephson junctions bec...
